tis the season of giving

"one of the secrets of life is that all that is really worth the doing is what we do for others."

lewis carroll

the holidays are in full swing. i'm sure you've attended one....ahem....five...holiday parties at this point already. this is what the season is about. reconnecting. getting together. celebrating. rejoicing. being in the company of those we love. but amidst all the parties and presents, we may lose sight of the giving. of those less fortunate than ourselves who are not enjoying those parties and presents, who cannot be home with the ones they love, or maybe who don't have a home at all. so we learn to give, this is the season of giving. and there are so many ways to do so.

look to your church, your children's schools, the town hall, even grocery stores. they are all most likely running drives to collect food and gifts. there are endless volunteer programs taking place during this time as well. look up soup kitchens in your area. look up meals on wheels. or non-profits that support children with disabilities. send a note to our soldiers abroad. habitat for humanity. stop by and visit with elderly people whom may not have anyone left. even just a hello and a smile can go a long way.

the feeling of giving back is hugely rewarding. and once you experience it, you'll never want it to end.  the gift of giving is an incredible one, letting those in need receive. this will be something you make a tradition, or even more so, you start doing regularly. tis the season to brighten this world up. smile big, give hard, love all.

my favorite quotes x 2

"I love this spot. It’s like heaven, right here on earth. Maybe that’s what heaven is. Maybe we go through life collecting people and places we love, and they become our heaven."

take a moment, take it all in. this place is your place. this time is your time. enjoy everything you have, learn that nothing should be taken for granted. let this be your heaven.

A Single Step

Begin with a single step.

Treat your yoga practice this way. The first step in mastering an advanced pose is simply giving it a try. And knowing that there is no such thing as failure. If you fall, that's great...you're one step closer already because you tried, you gave it your all. And you can try again. Don't let fear stop you.

Start right now, take the step - take a leap of faith. Trust in your body, for your body can do amazing things.

Drop expectation, drop judgement, drop your ideals, drop jealousy. Don't look at anyone else's practice.  Pick up strength, pick up determination, pick up faith, pick up trust. Look at your practice and your own journey in yoga.

What can you work on to help you achieve the advanced pose? Never ever give up. Be patient.

Feel good in your practice. Trust your body and listen to it. What does it need right now? Don't push yourself, with each day and each step you take, you are inching closer to your goals.  Yoga teaches us to love our bodies, to love where we are, right here, right now.

Take the step....hell, take a leap. Jump in. Enjoy the ride.
